🚗 Transportation in Albania

Traveling around Albania is easy once you know how the transport system works. Whether you’re heading from Tirana to the beaches of Ksamil or exploring the mountains of the north, here’s everything you need for a smooth trip.

✈️ Getting to Albania

•By Air: Tirana International Airport (TIA) is the country’s main gateway, located 17 km from the capital. Smaller airports exist in Kukës and Vlorë.

•By Sea: Daily ferries connect Durrës, Vlorë, and Sarandë with Italy (Bari, Brindisi, Ancona) and Greece (Corfu).

•By Land: Albania can be reached by car or international bus from Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia.

🚌 Getting Around Albania

🧭 Wherever you go — north to the Alps, south to the Riviera, or east to the lakes — every road in Albania is an adventure waiting to be explored.

🚗 By Car

Driving gives the most freedom to explore. Main highways connect the north to the south:

•A1 (Rruga e Kombit): connects Tirana → Shkodër → Kosovo
•A2: connects Fier → Vlorë
•A3: connects Tirana → Elbasan → Korçë
💡 Tip: Gas stations are common, but some rural areas only accept cash.

🚌 By Bus and Minibus (Furgon)

Buses are the main form of intercity transport in Albania — inexpensive, frequent, and generally reliable.

There are two main bus terminals in Tirana:
1.South and North Albania Bus Terminal (near TEG Mall) – for buses to Vlorë, Fier, Berat, Gjirokastër, Sarandë, and southern destinations.
2.North and Central Albania Bus Terminal (Kashar area) – for buses to Shkodër, Lezhë, Kukës, Durrës, and central Albania.
By Taxi

Traveling by taxi in Albania is a convenient and comfortable way to get around, especially if you want a direct route without the hassle of public transport schedules. Taxis are widely available in cities, at airports, and popular tourist areas.

You can book in advance with trusted local taxi services to ensure safety and reliability. Many taxi companies also offer 24/7 service, making them ideal for late arrivals or early departures.
